2010 Philanthropist of the Year Named
On Tuesday, February 15, the Lakeland Regional Medical Center Foundation hosted the annual donor reception – an “Evening of Jazz and Blues.” During the event, held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Mack Reavis, two special awards were given to recognize philanthropic efforts that went above and beyond in 2010. The award recipients were: Steve and Ann Moore and Hall Communications.
2010 Individual Philanthropist of the Year
Each year, the Foundation names Philanthropist(s) of the Year – in which an individual, couple or physician is recognized for their exceptional commitment to the vision and values of LRMC by making a significant personal contribution of time, talent and resources to the development of superior healthcare.
The Foundation recognized Steve and Ann Moore as the 2010 Philanthropists of the Year. The Moores have been loyal supporters of the hospital, with giving that dates back to 1991. The Moores are Gold level members (which requires that cumulative giving is equivalent to $50,000 -$99,999) of the Foundation’s Morrell Society. Their contributions include gifts to the Cancer Clinical Trials Campaign and annual gifts to the Lights for Life campaign.
In addition to their gifts, the Moores were recognized for their generous volunteer commitments made to Lakeland Regional. Mr. Moore is a current Foundation board member, former chair of the Development Committee and former committee member of the Lights for Life NICU Campaign. Furthermore, Mrs. Moore is a leadership member of the Foundation’s Women in Philanthropy Giving Society.
“Steve and Ann Moore are truly worthy of this honor,” said John Cannon, the Foundation’s 2009 Philanthropist of the Year. “They have loyally supported the hospital for 20 years, supporting virtually every project the Foundation has taken on in those years.”
In addition, the Moores are strong supporters of a number of other organizations including : Central Florida Speech and Hearing, First United Methodist Church and the Lakeland Rotary Club.
“Steve and Ann are two of the most sincere volunteers I’ve ever known. When they believe in a cause, they truly take it to heart,” said Ken Menefee, the Foundation Executive Director.
Past recipients of the Philanthropist of the year include, John and Helen Cannon, Chuck and Connie Bovay, Hunt and Mary Berryman, Lester and Selma Wishnatzki and Ed and Denise Crenshaw.
2010 Corporate Philanthropist of the Year
The Corporate Philanthropist of the Year recognizes a business that has made a significant contribution of services, products and/or financial resources to the development of superior health care.
Hall Communications was recognized as the 2010 Corporate Philanthropist of the Year for their dedicated years of involvement with the Foundation.
“They have been a long-standing supporter of not only LRMC projects but of many other organizations in this community. They truly are an example of an organization that is supportive of its community,” said Menefee.
Hall Communications is a Platinum Level Morrell Society Member (which requires giving $100,000-$500,000). Since 1990, Hall Communications has supported LRMC with cash gifts, thousands of dollars in in-kind advertising for Lights for Life and Cookin’ Men. They have also donated prize packages for LRMC’s annual Victorian Tea breast cancer awareness event, which was also emceed by Station Manager Nancy Cattarius. Additionally, Hall Communications radio host, Andrea Oliver, has emceed LRMC’s Matters of the Heart event for the past two years.
Even more, the Foundation is fortunate to have Art and Bonnie Rowbotham, station owners, as key volunteers. Art currently serves as the Foundation Board Chair, and Bonnie serves as a member of the Foundation’s Women in Philanthropy Executive Committee.
