Foundation Names Philanthropists of the Year for 2007

March 12, 2008

The Lakeland Regional Medical Center Foundation recognized Mary & Hunt Berryman as the 2007 Philanthropists of the Year at the Foundation’s annual donor reception on Tuesday, March 4, 2008.
The Berrymans have been loyal supporters of the hospital, with giving that dates back to 1995. They have made significant gifts to many Foundation campaigns including Cancer Clinical Trials and Lights for Life projects benefiting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Emergency Department. They are members of the Foundation’s Morrell Society, which recognizes donors who have given $10,000 or more during their lifetimes.
The Berrymans are also members of the Foundation’s Bridge Builder Society - a special group of donors who have made or arranged for gifts through their estates.
In addition to their gifts, the Berrymans are being recognized for the generous volunteer commitments they have made to Lakeland Regional. Mr. Berryman served as a hospital board member from 1995-2004, acting as its chair from 1998-99. After that, he went on to serve with the Foundation board where he is still currently serving as well as chairing the Foundation’s Major Gifts Committee. Mr. Berryman led the Foundation’s Lights for Life Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Campaign, serving as its chairman from 2004-2006. During that campaign, he was instrumental in raising over half a million dollars to purchase 15 brand new NICU beds.
Mrs. Berryman has served on several Foundation event committees such as the Victorian Tea for Breast Cancer Awareness and the Women in Philanthropy kick-off event Menopause the Musical. She was also a campaign committee volunteer for the Clinical Trials Campaign.
The Philanthropist of the Year is: An individual, couple or corporation that has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the vision and values of LRMC by making a significant personal contribution of time, talent and personal resources to the development of superior healthcare.
